Drugmakers and pharma companies would now have to reveal drug prices in TV ads as per the new rule under the Trump administration

On Wednesday, 8th March the Trump administration stated that pharma companies would have to reveal the prices of drugs while advertising it on TV.  This move by President Trump states that he is keen to lower drug prices which could earn him a lot of support.

The rule states that drugmakers and pharma companies would have to reveal the price of their products in advertisments which cost more than $35 for 30 days of supply. Drug makers right now are stating the side effects of their drugs in TV ads.

On Wednesday, President Trump tweeted “Historic transparency for American patients” he also stated that drug companies are ashamed of their high price.

He added that American patients need to know the prices for the drugs in TV ads.

Alex Azar, the Secretary of Health and Human Services said in a statement “The Trump administration has taken a significant step when it comes to the inclusion of drug prices in TV ads”  

Drug maker stated that the rule could confuse customers and prices vary widely based on insurance. The rule even violates the First Amendment rights of drug companies.

Trump said in a statement on Wednesday that drug makers with their high prices are “getting away with murder.”
